As you already know, metal music is basically unlistenable but here’s an exception!
‘Karate’ is a a bizarrely catchy gothic metal track from BABYMETAL! As we leave for Tokyo tomorrow this seems like the perfect song.
Babymetal are apparently pioneers of Kawaii Metal (yeah I had no idea either)— a genre of music that combines pop melodies, thrash metal and Japanese idol aesthetics. I know that doesn’t sound promising (and listening to other tracks in the genre, it’s not) but this track is fun.
Can’t recall how I found it but I do love how the grinding ominous verse suddenly leaps into a J-pop chorus. As for the video….only in Japan….
